Happy Easter from Canberra

| |

When the Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that there would be “absolutely no holidays this Easter school holidays!” I did wonder what on earth we would do for Easter over a long weekend in Canberra in lockdown. We’d been hoping to get away to the coast to the beach (along with most other Canberrans) as it was the first time in absoultely ages that John had a few days off work in a row.

It turned out to be pretty relaxing and for the first time in a long time I didn’t feel the need to whizz around at lightning speed. For my Birthday we went for a walk and I was also delighted to get some video Birthday messages from around the world.

For Easter we did Easter craft activities, gathered up branches to make an Easter tree, handmade Easter tree decorations and even cooked a traditional roast lamb Easter dinner. John cooked up a storm with his amazing yorkshire puddings!

We also went for a few lovely bushwalks including the National Arboretum, Mount Painter and the Pinnacle Nature Reserve.

On Easter day we were lucky to have had a visit from the Easter bunny, which was especially lucky because the Easter Bilby was nowhere to be seen.

Catching up with family over videocalls was good but not the same as a family gathering in the real world. Though this time last year we had been able to go back for a visit.

We would like to wish you all a Happy Easter from Canberra and to wish you a happy and healthy and brilliant Spring. Really hoping that the scientists can create a vaccine or treatment for COVID-19 rapidly so that the world can return to some kind of normal.

Stay home, stay sane and keep washing your hands!
